Through fashion I have learned how to make myself feel more self-assured and outgoing

When I was younger, I would often cry in the dressing room while shopping. It’s still challenging choosing outfits for my body type. However, I no longer try to disappear under layers of baggy clothes. I have learned to accentuate the details about myself that I feel confident about to balance out the details that make me feel insecure.

I want the community to be filled with people of colors that meld together

When did fashion become less about matching colors and more about ludicrous design? As a former model, I should know what I’m talking about. Some of the designs they make you wear are out there and extremely unappealing, but I defend them because they’re pieces of art. But general clothing is a different story. People are trying to take the rules of the runway and apply them to our daily wardrobe, and that isn’t how things work, guys. My wardrobe is chock full of primary, secondary and base colors that all go together, no matter what Instagram model might tell you.

this purpley floral romper. It was a GREAT haul from St. Vincent de Paul! Actually, it was United Cerebral Palsy Thrift Store. But ‘haul’ and ‘store’ don’t rhyme.

«I never thought I wanted to style Sunniva raunchy just to shock people. But I remember once I made her wear a shirt that turned out to be way more see through under the stage lights than we’d thought – a bit like art by accident» muses Tekla Lou.
